“so many people” really isn’t nearly as many as you have been led to believe by the popular media outlets. In fact, I would argue what “so many” actually means.
Its a major issue because its a major issue in the heartland.

It is a sign of the times, America has been taken over by the moral minority. Best thing to do is vote for people that believe as you do. Sad but true.

Marriage is based on a religious Principal your not going to get them to accept gay marriage. And I don’t think they have to corrupt it because a minority wants to make it so. I do think that there should be civil unions without religion so gays can finally make it legal.

Actually no, the majority of people do have a problem.
In every state that has had a vote on state ballots, it is been by large percentage against Gay marriage. So it is merely a gay lie that most people don’t care. Most people in the privacy of the voting booth, tell the truth they won’t tell you to your face, they are against it.
In the few places it was ever allowed it was by court action, not by vote. the Gay and Lesbian don’t want it on the ballot and fight to get the votes overturned.
