We are nice, ethical, tax paying, hard working, law abiding, red blooded Americans, all of those that I know anyway. Why the discrimination? Wasn’t this country founded on the very concept “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Plain old bigotry is rearing its ugly head again. Why can’t our country realize that the other two times this issue came up we were better off having granted full rights to our citizens. No one questions today whether or not women should be able to vote or blacks to eat in whatever restaurant they choose. Why then can a Gay man not defend his country and a Lesbian couple not get married? How is Gay monogomy an assault on straight marriage?
Please do not reference religion in your response as the authors of the Constitution thought that was the most important thing to point out in the Bill of Rights.
People are threatened by any others who wouldn’t seem to follow the “laws” of the world as they understand them. That is the basis for stereotyping and prejudice.

those who are judgmental towards gay people are just not accepting of something that they aren’t used to. many people would say religion is the reason, but how can you judge a gay person based on that? i’m sure those who judge aren’t the best christians, hindus, bhuddists, jews, etc… i’m straight but i have no problem with gays and lesbians whatsoever.. all i can say is live your life how you want to, don’t let any “haters” put you down.. you are a human being and you shouldnt let other peoples opinions change anything about yourself.. be yourself, and love yourself!

I have no problem with anyone. Why do I need to know what you do in your personal life. It seems that the “gay” lifestyle is being pushed down everyones throats lately. I don’t go around saying “Look at me, I’m heterosexual!”

because most people feel that it is unatural for members of the same sex to be together because when ma was created woman was created for him to be with not another man and it is hard for people to get over thier problems with this just like all those other rights took time to come about right for gays will come in time as well maybe

We don’t until you want extra rights because you think you are discriminated against. Normal laws cover most situations; why do you need special laws.
And, when your buddies dance in the street in women’s undies, it is not a good scene for young people. Heterosexuals do not advertise their undies or sex life in public.
And, there are some of you that are out trolling for younger people to get into your lifestyle.
This is not a battle with only two sides. It is a battle between the far extremes of two sides.

It’s not the people, it’s the behavior. It’s like smoking, many people do it but it’s not healthy for them and they know it. Same with the gay lifestyle, people do it but it’s not healthy for them. Smokers feel they are discriminated against too, but more and more places are closing the door to smokers anyhow. If you know something is bad for you, you stay away from it. I think this is being confused with discrimination when in actuality it is really about choosing a healthier lifestyle.

Dont we have the right to disagree with the homesexual lifestyle and voice our opinions? Or does the freedom of speech go only one way? My brother in law is gay and I know other gays who are very nice people. Its nothing against them personally but their lifestyle. I dont agree with homosexuality. I dont think its good for society and I dont think they should have special privledges like changing the definition of marriage so they can get married. We would actually have to change the definition of marriage and the law to make gay marriage legal. I think thats wrong. Do I have a right to my own opinion without beeing called a bigot, hate monger or homophobe? I dont call homosexuals names, Im not rude to them, Im not mean to them I would never hurt them and I believe they have a right to live they way they chose. But I dont have to agree.

I feel that the problems people have with Gay people stem from their own self doubt, or just plain fear. It’s often said that we fear the unknown, and this is very true. For some people they just cannot comprehend 2 men or 2 women wanting to be in a loving relationship together in that way, and therefore they hate what they do not understand. Just my opinion any way…

Your going to hate this answer but here it is – because its NOT NATURAL. It’s supposed to be men and women together. Same sex couplings cannot procreate. I’ve had women hit on me before and found it repulsive – it just didn’t feel right. I also think it’s very annoying how gays have to flaunt their gayness to make sure everyone knows their gay. I don’t see normal people doing that.

Ok first I ‘will’ mention religion not from the standpoint of the constitution but because whether or not ‘gay citizens’ (emphasis added) want to admit it much of the attitude is founded on a religious basis of what is show to be wrong within sciptures. That being said, unkind attitudes, judgemental attitudes toward others, are also scripturally wrong. And no where in the Christain Bible, save blasphamey, are any sins ranked.
Now with all that said, I might give an answer with a question. What do many gays have the ‘in your face’ attitude. I personally don’t care if your gay, straight, bi, pink, yellow, white or black. But when you come across as some flame, or in your face flag waver, or even in the case of race, that you owe me, then thats where I get annoyed.
As for the military, …. short answer.. tradition. Also it goes back to the perception that (I emphasis again perception) that gays are just into unbridled promiscuous sex. I might point out that the UCMJ , uniform code of military justice also has strict enforcement of adultry, and other crimes of unacceptable sex as dispicted within the code. Many of which are overlooked within general laws today, even though they still may be on the books.
Whether it is the over push of civil rights by blacks, gay rights activist or others, there comes a time when enough is enough. I wonder what might happen to the so called bigotry in all areas if those with agendas would back off and just blend in with socieity as the majority do. The positive results might be profounnd.

It’s interesting that you say “rearing its ugly head,” as if persecution against gay people just started during the Bush administration. We’ve been persecuted for thousands of years, Bush didn’t invent it (unfortunately).
In answer to many people who ask why we must be so obvious, and go around telling everyone we’re gay. That’s because there is prejudice in this society, and it’s called heterosexism. It’s the assumption that everyone is heterosexual. Some of us aren’t. Some of us are very vocal about it, and others aren’t. Some people are flamers because it naturally comes to them, deal. Maybe we should stop blaming the victims here and start teaching people to be more accepting of others, rather than reinforcing the existing discrimination.
In answer to someone who said its tradition not to have gays in the military you’re right. In the late 40’s they started the “tradition.” Segregation, slavery, and misogyny were all well established traditions before they were done away with. We’ve evolved; times and traditions change. The Israeli military has been integrated for decades, and I think most people would agree that its one military that most people wouldn’t want to mess with. There already are thousands of gay people in the military who are already defending their country. In the last 4 years over a thousand gay people have been discharged, nearly 70 of them were translators of Arabic and Farsi. It is now getting to the point that this “tradition” is threatening our national security; it should end now!
As many people in Massachusetts are finding, gay monogamy is not an assault on straight marriage. In 2003 when the MA Supreme Court ruled only 46% of people supported the idea of gay marriage in MA, now it’s over 65%. Why? Because people saw that God did not reign down fire as was prophesied by Pat Robertson and his kind. And to those who are uncomfortable by the idea that I might have civil rights (like getting married), I’m sorry you’re uncomfortable, but I want my rights now! I’m sick of hearing that we can’t have gay marriage because “I’m just not comfortable with the idea.” Well, I can’t visit my partner in the hospital unless I’m lucky enough to have a liberal front desk attendant because you’re uncomfortable, I pay more taxes to give him his health care because you’re uncomfortable, we don’t get social security coverage because you’re uncomfortable, the state could take our children away if one of us died because the surviving parent might “have no legal relationship to the children” because you’re uncomfortable.
There comes a point where we need to balance the pain and injustice of millions of gay people being denied their civil rights, with the discomfort of the majority of Americans. One of the main principles of the Constitution is the defense of the rights of the minority. Well, we don’t have the problem of having to defend our rights, because in many cases we’re not being given any rights in the first place. It’s time for this to end, and America will be a better place for it.

I absolutely agree with you. There is a ridiculous amount of discrimination based on sexual preference. It nauseates me to read some of these answers.
For example, astro thinks that gay people are misfits. Well, there is bias in that because looking at the number of people in prison, I have a good mind to say that the majority are heterosexual males who have a hard time controlling themselves.
pngarrett doesnt want to have homosexual lifestyles shoved down his throat because he (or she or whatever) does not go around saying “look at me I’m heterosexual.” Well, if this person has ever held hands with his or her significant other, kissed, been publicly married, etc, then he or she basically HAS gone around saying, “Look at me. I’m a heterosexual.”
All the religiously-based crap is just that: crap.
Apparently, fdf1925 is misinformed about what homosexuals actually want. I don’t remember seeing anyone asking for special rights. I DO remember seeing many people want EQUAL rights. And for the “normal laws,” I am wondering which laws would cover insurance benefits, civil rights, and freedom to be who you are without chastisement for homosexuals? I haven’t seen any yet….And for the heterosexuals not displaying their undies or their sex life in public, I would like to remind you of nearly EVERY bit of advertising that goes on in this country. SEX SELLS. Undies do, too. Patrolling for young people??!?! WTF? just…wow.
ihelp is a smart one…apparently homosexuality is addictive. I guess that it should be cut and sold by the pound. Could get expensive, though. When we choose to be addicted to this drug called “gay” we might come to the realization that only rehab can help…get us off the “gay” and return to a normal and healthy co-dependent marriage and have children which will be educated to think that the “gay” drug is one of the most addictive. o_O right.
anna1 claims to not want to “hurt the gay paople” but her statement does just that. She is setting up the division between “us and them.” How thoughtful.
Donna M Z must think that the Bonobo monkeys are unnatural as well. If hers is a religious belief, that homosexuality is “unnatural,” then I challenge her to read up on some of the primate species who actually DO enjoy sex for the sake of it…doesnt matter which sex the other monkey is. If “god” created the Bonobos, they are “his” creatures, and they behave in such a way, then I would have to say that God made some gay monkeys! Yeehaw! Nature is what it is, honey. I hope you have a gay son- that way, you will have to call youself UNNATURAL because you bread the beast.
I’m sorry, but I don’t even have the energy to deal with str8_2_it.
GOOD FOR YOU yodasminion!!! My kind of thinker.
arikinder “doesnt have a problem with gay people” but wont ever support anything for them. ok….he discounted his statement altogether with that.
SO essentially, I have no answer for your question. Just thought I would make these people feel the same way homosexuals have been feeling for way too long- that is what you feel and what you know to be truth for you is made fun of, ridiculed, told is wrong, forced you to feel hurt, shame, embarassment, etc. I just have one question for all of you people who seem to think that homosexuality is a choice:
Do you honestly think that people would CHOOSE to be treated the way bigoted heterosexuals treat homosexuals? Do you honestly think homosexuals would want that? That ANYONE would want that?
steps off of soapbox.

Not everyone, just ignorant people. But when you say “we are” you are incorrect. Some gays are mean, unethical, tax dodging, lazy, criminals.
I discriminate against flamers. Not because they are gay, but because they annoy me.
Yes, you are garanted the pursuit of happiness. No, you are not garanted happiness. Just like the rest of us.
A gay man can defend his country. I had a subordinate in Iraq that was gay.
As for getting married, I think you should be able to. But I don’t think the church should have to recognize it. That is another reason I am for the seperation of church and state.
