  1. I’m pretty sure that there were.

Human nature has not changed since the human species first appeared. I would think that homosexuality among early human populations would be about the same as it is today.

  2. Hrd to say. I think a lot more of sexuality is socially constructed than is fashionable to say just now (whether you’re on the right or left of the issue). Sure, there’s always been a few hardcore types (straight or gay) who probably are biologically programmed, but the range of allowable sexual expression at different times and places has been too vast to think we all born to do what we do. In my mind, the question comes down to what we know of so-called “cavepeople” culture and the answer is “not much.” A few spear points and some paintings way underground. 20,000-50,000 years ago is a nearly incomprehensible length of time, in terms of understanding another culture. Just because we’re the same species, doesn’t mean we have a clue about their day-to-day lives.

  3. I don’t think cavemen had the advanced language to come up with a term gay or homosexual. Maybe some of them weren’t “gay” but perhaps some of them engaged in same-sex intercourse.

  4. If by cavemen, you mean ancient populations of our species, homo sapiens (wise man) and other hominids, then the answer is “maybe yes.” You have asked a very interesting question about the nature of sexuality and inheritance or genetics. Certainly in all human societies through out history, scholars have found evidence of same-sex attraction. Sometimes human societies have promoted aspects of homosexual attraction like ancient Greece or samurai-era Japan, at other times, human society has tried to forbid or control sexualities.
On the other hand, among chimpanzees (our closest genetic relative in the animal world) homosexual behaviors are common and accepted.
Some recent scientific studies have suggested that some aspects of homo-sexualities may be genetic http://www.fsw.ucalgary.ca/ramsay/gay-lesbian-bisexual/4a-genetic-biology-gay.htm but the evidence is too light and the methodologies of analysis too untried, to reach any conclusion. The late Dr. Stephen Jay Gould, of Harvard suggested in one of his essays that if “gayness” were genetic, then it would have had some biological advantage (for humans as a group, not the individual) or it would have disappeared from the gene pool by natural selection. So the answer to your question at the end of all this (as at the beginning) is – maybe.

  5. Yes, but as their fabulousness was as primitive as all other aspects of “society”, no one really noticed.

Or were there designer skins and softball teams then?

  6. The typing of gender as “gay” or “straight” is actually a fairly modern thing to do. The truth is that much of our interest is sexuality as a part of society has developed very recently. While there may have been people who were attracted to same-sex individuals throughout time, and most societies have record of this, the degree to which they acted on these impulses was most likely dictated by the society in which they lived. If you believe in evolution, then I would argue that sex was originally about procreation, which would deny much homosexuality. When sex developed into recreation, then the different, non-procreative, forms of expression would have developed.

I think there might be, but I am laso thinking if there wud have been some kind of gene manipulation that happened when early humans started experimenting with different drugs (herbs or potions) that worked on the DNA/chromosome level. So I am thinking that maybe somewhere along the line some kind of a transformation took place in humans. Is that plausible or am I hallucinating. Don’t kill me for this!

  8. yes, I think 2 or 3 percent, just like the present human population. But there were no closets for them to come out, so it hard to say, closets were not invented yet.

  9. There have been discoveries from ancient Rome that depict pictures of male homosexuality however I do not know of any earlier discoveries. Incidentally, there are biologically only two forms of sexual behavior – sexual and asexual – sexual refers to intercourse as a means of reproduction and asexual refers to external reproduction where fertilization takes place outside of the body, for example: Salmon spawning – the eggs are laid by the female and then fertilized by the male. “Sexuality” as used when referring to feelings between two humans is emotional feeling and although often leads to intercourse, it is not a natural biological activity. Mating, as reproduction is often referred to is an act which takes place between a male and female of a given species. Since it is impossible in almost all species which rely upon sexual reproduction, for two males to reproduce through an act of copulation and likewise for two females to do the same, then by definition, homosexual behavior is not a natural act. It may well be an acceptable one but is definitely not a natural one.

    Just my humble opinion.

  10. I’m sure there were gay cavemen… but they only did it once, and they were drunk and college was a very confusing time for them.

  12. No, because I don’t believe there were “cave men and cave women”, but if you look in the Holy Bible and read about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah you will find that God destroyed them due to homosexuality among other sins. It is plainly stated in the history of Lot and his family. Back in those days it was not called homosexuality, that is a name that we have given it. It was called “unnatural.”
