Why does everyone have such a problem with Gay people?

We are nice, ethical, tax paying, hard working, law abiding, red blooded Americans, all of those that I know anyway. Why the discrimination? Wasn’t this country founded on the very concept “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Plain old bigotry is rearing its ugly head again. Why can’t our country realize that the other two times this issue came up we were better off having granted full rights to our citizens. No one questions today whether or not women should be able to vote or blacks to eat in whatever restaurant they choose. Why then can a Gay man not defend his country and a Lesbian couple not get married? How is Gay monogomy an assault on straight marriage?

Please do not reference religion in your response as the authors of the Constitution thought that was the most important thing to point out in the Bill of Rights.

Aren’t the morals and culture of the country better today than they were a hundred years ago?

Everyone keeps complaining about how our culture has gotten so much worse because of the violence and sex that’s in movies and on TV but isn’t that missing the big picture? The progress that’s been made in human rights is amazing. The last hundered years have seen equal rights for women and people of all races come about, the end of segregation, and the acceptance of gays and lesbians.

So was it really all that much better when it wasn’t very easy to see a naked person but a white man could kill a black man without fear of punishment? I’d also guess that more people donate to charities or volunteer today than they did fifty or a hundred years ago. Isn’t that a reflection of morality? People get so caught up with judging the morality of a culture based on the outer appearance (TV, music, etc.) that they fail to recognize that the true morality of a culture is reflected in it’s ideals.
